Since 2000 one of the most extensively researched topics within tourism studies has been that of tourism and local economic development.

Although the economic benefits of agritourism development has been identified as a topic in need of greater research attention, agritourism is viewed as a catalyst for revitalizing troubled rural agrarian economies and local employment creation for small town revival.

Jacqui Taylor is intimately aware of the concerns and economic restraints in small town communities as she is the daughter of a farm manager who has lived and worked in rural areas. Instead it is about encouraging the participation of all pivotal community members to the benefit of the area and not only the individuals such as farmers.
